"Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."-Martin Lutyher King Jr. We are so proud of our LIA students at Copper Hills High! On Friday, they had an activity which they planned and carried out 100% on their own. It was amazing! They made over 100 sack lunches with sweet messages, hand warmers, drinks, chips and sandwiches, plus an extra 100 sandwiches. They then delivered them to the homeless. They also started a "clothing closet" at Copper Hills where they collect clothes for the students in our very own community who are in need of clothes. Good job guys! Keep up the good work!

Mother Teresa once said: "Some people come in your life as blessings. Some come in your life as lessons." For Veronica Solorzano, the Latinos in Action teacher at Mount Nebo Jr. High, her students are both. The student council at Mount Nebo Jr. High asked LIA to help organize a Halloween Dance in October. After the event had taken place, Troy Peterson, Mount Nebo's principal said LIA had $250.00 to use for themselves. It was the first time the LIA class had money for anything! So Ms. Solorzano told her students she would use the money to take them out to eat at the end of the school year. Her students gave her a lesson she'll never forget: they all decided to use the money to hold a fundraiser instead of going out to eat. As a result, on December 16th, her class of only 20 students held a fundraiser with the proceeds going to the Primary Children's Hospital. The event was a success, as her students raised over $550. Isn't this amazing? It is just another testament of how wonderful our students are. Like, comment, and share if you agree. “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” |
